On September 10, 1975, at age 23, the Lord broke through Denny’s hardened heart, saved him from his sin, and gave him a new love for life. One year later, now in college, he married his girlfriend Sue. The following year (1977) they had the opportunity to smuggle Bibles behind the “Iron Curtain” with Open Doors. It was during this summer of ministry that the Lord gave them a profound love for persecuted Christians.
After completing college, the Lord called Denny & Sue move to Cairo and serve in Egypt from 1982-1987. There he ministered to the Christian garbage collectors primarily doing community development, health care and education. Working closely with born-again Egyptians, they shared the Gospel in word & deed. In 1987 they returned to the USA in order to attend seminary, planning to get right back to Egypt in two years. As we read in PR 16:9, “A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.” It would be 10 years before Denny could even visit his beloved Middle East. In the waiting period Denny finished seminary, planted Calvary Chapel of Southern Ocean County (in 1994); and Susan completed her teaching degree and taught a variety of subjects in a Christian High School in New Egypt, NJ.
Their love for the Christians living in the Middle East never waned and by God’s grace in 2008 they left the church and began “Dreams Alive: The Arab/American Alliance for Relief & Development.” This took Denny around the US & Europe teaching Christians how to share their faith with Muslims. He also led mission trips and teaching trips into the Middle East. Again, by God’s grace, in 2012, he was asked to be the Sr. pastor of Saar Fellowship, an international church in the Kingdom of Bahrain. They met and served believers from 70 nations around the world and baptized former Muslims into the Christian faith!
While serving in Bahrain, Dreams Alive continued as Denny & Sue led ministry trips & raised funds for Arab-led Christian ministries throughout the region. Since 2014 their focus has been on helping refugees from Syria & Iraq and helping Christians to remain in the Middle East, where the Light & Love of Christ can counter the Darkness & Hatred of “radical” Islam.
They returned from Bahrain to NJ in August 2019 in order to be closer to family. Denny continues to serve persecuted Christians and others throughout the Middle East and has been back in the Middle East three times since relocating to New Jersey!
Denny and Sue were blessed with 6 children and 9 grandchildren with a 10th grandchild due in June!
