Learning from a Learner

July 1, 2019 by Deven Berryhill

By Codie Winslow
Director of Library & Learning Resources

Whether you are pursuing a Biblical Certificate, Bachelor or Master of Arts in Biblical Studies, or Master of Divinity, we have a new resource worth a gander – E.C. Bragg Digital Library. Part of the college experience is developing a love for lifelong learning, and who better to learn from than a veteran professor of Theology – Dr. Ervene C. Bragg.

The E.C. Bragg Digital Library at Trinity College of Florida consists of an online digital collection of the lectures, notes and writings of Dr. E.C. Bragg. This online library allows researchers access to re-mastered audio lectures on a variety of theological topics including Systematic Theology, Pauline Theology, Prophecy, Christian Apologetics, History of Missions, Christian Psychology, Hermeneutics, Harmony of the Gospels, and Comparative Religions. The E.C. Bragg Digital Library also features Dr. Bragg’s full-length text, Pauline Theology book, which takes a deep dive into the biblical teachings of the Apostle Paul.

Dr. Bragg taught at Trinity for 55 plus years and was the only professor to teach on all five campuses of the school. People have recognized him as the longest standing professor of theology anywhere in the United States and he estimated that he taught around 23,000 students. Dr. Bragg also served as Vice-President of Trinity College and was on the Board of Trustees from 1949 until his death.

Need a Break from Screen Time? Check Out a Library Near You

May 17, 2019 by Deven Berryhill

By Codie Winslow, former CCU Director of Library And Learning Resources

With all the time you spend online, there are times when it feels good to have a hard copy resource in your hands. Flipping through the pages of an anthology or pouring over the words of a great article in actual print can scratch an itch, that desire to do it the good ol’ fashioned way. Too bad no more card catalogues, right? Or is that just me.

The process of learning something new amongst the hallowed stacks of a physical library is a lost art, but it doesn’t have to be.

Through Calvary Chapel University’s membership with the Association of Christian Librarians (ACL), a professional community that creates and promotes quality materials and projects for the benefit of libraries, CCU students and faculty have access to the Reciprocal Borrowing Program.

Reciprocal borrowing is a voluntary program whereby ACL member institutions choosing to participate extend in-person borrowing privileges to authorized patrons from other ACL institutions. Patrons, including faculty, students, and staff, have reciprocal access to the physical collections of participating Christian institutions.

Pinch me! Ok…I may be a bonafide, lifelong-learning nerd. And, I hope you are too. Here’s how to take advantage of this benefit:

ACL Borrowing Procedures

  • Borrower obtains a signed Authorization Form from the home library to receive borrowing privileges from a participating library. Currently employed faculty and staff and currently enrolled students in good standing are eligible. The home library has the authority to issue or deny this privilege.
  • The home library determines the length of valid authorization. The authorization period may vary depending on the status of the borrower but should be no longer than a year. When authorization period expires, borrower may request another signed authorization form from the home library.
  • Borrower takes the signed Authorization Form along with a photo ID to a participating library. Privileges and loan periods are determined by the lending library and may vary from those of the borrower’s home institution.
  • Borrower returns materials to the lending library by the requested due date and pays any applicable fines and fees for late, lost, or damaged materials as determined by the lending library.

Visit www.acl.org/RBP to find a current list of participating libraries near you or check out theMap of Reciprocal Borrowing Institutions to locate one near you.

April 12, 2019 by Deven Berryhill

Calvary Chapel University has joined with Veritas International University (VIU) to provide access for students and faculty to the The William E. Nix Electronic Library (TWENEL).

TWENEL is a collection of over 100,000 online full-text books, journals articles, video files, MP3, and more. Curated content includes classical works in history, theology, and religion, a puritan collection, reformation works, and journals in science, social and behavioral sciences, and the humanities.

The login information for this new featured resource, and any secondary resources available to CCU students, will be posted in Populi. Please note, most of the TWENEL library resources require no passwords. There are a few resources in TWENEL that are exclusive to VIU students (e.g., ProQuest).

Mom Raising 3 Kids Earns BA Degree Online At Calvary Chapel University

April 3, 2019 by Deven Berryhill

CCU Graduate Miray Jaksa Visiting Gideon Springs, Jezreel Valley – Israel 2019

I’m Miray Jaksa and am a testimony that it is never too late to pursue your dreams, that God can do anything if you give Him the desires of your heart, and with God all things are possible! CCU’s motto is Dream Big! My pastor has a sign in his office that says Pray Big! I always wanted to complete my degree, but raising 3 kids has been a full time job. In 2016 the Lord opened the door to pursue my degree in Biblical Studies, majoring in Women’s Ministry. This last month my dream came true and I am officially finished! So Dream Big and Pray Big!

The Lord has used my time at CCU to personally grow in my relationship with the Lord. Systematically studying God’s Word in my Bible classes has taught me priceless truths and principles for life. In the Christian Missions class I was challenged with the question, Is it easier to be on mission abroad or across the street? Since rededicating my life to the Lord over 30 years ago I have found it easier to be on mission when I’m on the mission field, but I know the Lord desires I be on mission here at home!

I recently heard your trials can define or redefine you. It’s my prayer that the Lord redefines my life with His purpose and plan through the challenges my husband and I have faced. We have a daughter with special needs, its been a long 18 years, but the Lord has taken a season of misery and turned it into a ministry. He gave the vision for Hope Outreach Ministry, reaching out to moms and families who have special needs kids, bringing them together for fellowship, prayer support and encouragement. This has been my mission field, one mom at a time, as it says in Gal. 6:2 & 10 we are to bear one another’s burdens and do good to all, but especially to those of the household of faith.

Serving to the Fullest was one of the classes that strengthened and equipped me to serve the Lord while encouraging women. I learned how God has wired and designed my personality and then graciously given me gifts for the building up of others faith. While studying various women’s ministry models the Lord has encouraged me to step out in faith and try new things. Women need Biblical Hope now for their situation, whatever it is- that Hope is Jesus! The world says, I hope it’s going to work out with their fingers crossed, but as a believer we have a confident expectation of coming good, because Jesus loved and died for us. Being confident in who Jesus is, that He is working all things together for good, even when it may not look good presently is essential. It is my desire to be a woman on mission, giving Hope to those who need it. I am incredibly grateful for my time at CCU, for the pastors, professors, all their encouragement, and I thank the Lord for His faithfulness in getting me across the finish line. Dream Big! Pray Big!

By His Grace and for His Glory!

Miray Jaksa
