Calvary Chapel University welcomes You!

April 4, 2014 by CCU Admin

Whatever God has for you, we are here to help. Calvary Chapel University  is a unique program distinct from other Calvary Chapel colleges. It is not in competition with the Bible College, the School of Ministry, School of Evangelism, or Veritas Seminary.  In fact, CCU compliments what those other educational institutions offer.

The goal of CCU is to provide practical training for church members so they can glorify Jesus in their homes, their church and their community. CCU is specifically interested in training people in roles that have often been considered secular. We believe that salvation holds claim to all aspects of an individual’s life, religious and secular. Therefore, we are attempting to provide courses that train Christians to serve as Christians in society.

CCU is also interested in providing training for church leaders who are engaged in administrative roles in the church. Those roles include church finances, ethics, accountability, technology, social work, Christian education, women’s ministry and office management.

Quality Strategies for Online Learning Success

December 9, 2013 by CCU Admin

Online learning environments offer great potential as powerful mediums for promoting meaningful interaction and critical thinking.

Effective assignments using discussion forums are fundamental vehicles for facilitating such interaction. Attributes of discussion forum assignments are presented by which their effectiveness may be assessed from a design perspective.

Every learning environment needs quality learning materials. Attributes of online learning environments, including its predominant asynchronous nature, its lack of face-to-face interaction, and the lack of academic control over anytime access to course content, require instructors and course designers to adapt online learning pedagogy appropriately. The predominant traditional classroom model has emphasized knowledge transfer from teacher to student and high control by the instructor over access to content. Online environments, in contrast, emphasize a constructivist approach that features learner control over access to content and meaningful interaction with other students and the instructor in a learning process that yields deeper understanding through critical thinking. Discussion boards are primary tools for facilitating meaningful interaction in online learning environments.

Graham et al. (2001) has identified seven attributes of effective online discussion assignments for use by instructors and online course designers:

  1. clear guidelines for instructor/student interaction,
  2. guidelines for ensuring meaningful discussion,
  3. students should present course projects,
  4. two types of feedback from students: information feedback and acknowledgment feedback,
  5. deadlines,
  6. challenging tasks, sample cases, and praise for quality work, and
  7. allowing students choice to accommodate individual differences.

Discussions should be designed to promote the inclusion in the course of learners’ individual backgrounds and experiences. By purposefully designing online discussions to include these attributes, motivation and achievement is increased. “To achieve pedagogical improvements in interactive web environments for assisting teaching and promoting learning, faculty can empower themselves by effectively using components such as discussion forums in web course tools” (Hazari, 2004).

Hazari, S. (2004). Strategy for assessment of online course discussions. Journal of Information Systems Education, 15(4), 349-355.

Jesus is For You!

January 17, 2013 by CCU Admin

shutterstock_98725346But now that their father was dead, Joseph’s brothers became afraid.  Now Joseph will pay us back for all the evil we did to him,” they said.  So the sent this message to Joseph:”Before your father died, he instructed us to say to you:’Forgive your brothers for the great evil they did to you.’ So we, the servants of the God of your father, beg you to forgive us.”  When Joseph received the message, he broke down and wept.  Then his brothers came and bowed low before  him.  “We are your slaves,” they said.

But Joseph told them, “Don’t be afraid of me.  Am I God, to judge and punish you?  As far as I am concerned, God turned into good what you meant for evil.  He brought me to the high position I have today so I could save the lives of many people.  No don’t be afraid.  Indeed, I myself will take care of you and your families.”  And he spoke very kindly to them, reassuring them.

This is such a great example of Jesus!  How often do we give into fear and rehash our past wrongs? We literally bathe in them!

Jesus’ act on the cross removes your guilt when you ask Him to be the Ruler of your life.  Not only has He forgiven you, but He will care you and your families.  He is for you!

Stop regurgitating your old sin.

Instead, thank Jesus for His grace and His tender care.  Walk in joy knowing that the One who can forgive you has, and share the good news with another!
