“My stress has been replaced by peace and my self-doubt has grown into confidence through the power of God”

February 17, 2015 by CCU Admin

Gary Fernandez

CCU Biblical studies student, Gary Fernandez, reflects on his recent experience taking courses at CCU.

“My thinking has been extended and pushed in directions that I definitely did not see coming. I first read Genesis as a suckling baby Christian a couple of years ago. I skimmed through the first two books of the Old Testament before diving into the New Testament. After the very first lecture by Professor Keehus I felt like a kindergartner in a college classroom. The Lord gave me Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving ,let your requests be known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heart and mind through Christ Jesus.” I prayed, I gave thanks to Our Lord for giving me this challenge, and I prayed more. My stress has been replaced by peace and my self-doubt has grown into confidence through the power of God.

Genesis 1:1 has taken on a life of its own in my mind. (There should be a class on this verse alone.) The reasoning about God and the universe from cosmology and potential infinity and actual infinity have become increasingly intriguing to me. I suppose those existing ideas have become new ideas for me to continue to explore.”

That was my response to a Discussion Board question in Professor Keehus’ Genesis class regarding our thinking being extended or pushed in new directions; however, it applies to my experience at CCU since day one. The challenging “Faith Assignments” in Dr. Aller’s class, the “Reflective Papers” in Dr. Rose’s class, the mind-expanding lectures in Professor Keehus’ class, have all contributed to one of the most rewarding seasons of my life. My faith, knowledge, and trust in the Lord have grown monumentally in such a short time. And it’s with God’s will and strength that I will continue to “Dream Big!”
