Dr. F Chapin Marsh III
President/Chancellor/Instructor
Dr. Marsh has earned degrees from the University of Southern California (BA), Pepperdine University (MA), and Pensacola Christian College (Ed.D.). His background includes serving as the Principal for Horizon High School in San Diego, the Headmaster at Salisbury Christian Schools in Maryland, as a Pastor/Teacher at The Rock Church, and as the Headmaster and Associate Pastor of Calvary Christian Academy. Dr. Marsh has been in Christian education since 1991 and currently serves on the Board of CCEA. He is the President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board for Youth Development International. In addition, he has had three books published, including: The Faith Factor – Unlocking God’s Amazing Plan for Your Abundant Life, A Classic Excellence – A Framework of Education Based on Christ, Derived from the Bible, and a children’s book, The Adventures of the Good Ship LadyFaith. Dr. Marsh lives in San Diego with his beautiful wife and three children.
Mel Johnson
Educational Program Coordinator
Mel joined the staff of Calvary Chapel University in 2008. He has been faithfully working for over twenty-five years in the field of higher education. The last seventeen years Mel was with National University at which he served as the Director of Student Services. Mel has received his BS degree in Liberal Studies from Regents College. He has also served twelve years in the Unites States Navy.
Wendy Berryhill
Dean of Academic Advancement/Instructor
Wendy has been involved in Christian education since 1996. Wendy currently serves as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Calvary Christian Academy in San Diego. Previously, she taught American Literature and World Literature at Horizon High School and served as the Dean of Women at Calvary Chapel High School in Costa Mesa. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Literature from Point Loma Nazarene University and a Master’s degree in Education from Hope International University. She is a Blackboard Certified Instructor and serves as the Systems Administrator for Calvary Chapel University.
Joseph Hack
Dean of the College of Biblical Leadership/Instructor
Joe earned his degrees from Michigan State University (BS), Illinois Institute of Technology (MBA), and Southern California Seminary (M-Div.). His background includes 21 years in the United States Navy, 8 years as an adjunct instructor at the University of California San Diego, and he has also taught classes at Southern California Seminary and San Diego Christian College. In 2005 he helped to establish Calvary Chapel Pastors College at Calvary Chapel San Diego, which is now Calvary Chapel University’s College of Biblical Leadership. He currently serves as the Dean of the College of Biblical Leadership at Calvary Chapel University. Joe is also pursuing his Doctoral studies at BIOLA’s Talbot Theological Seminary.
Deven Berryhill
Instructor
A worship leader and professional guitarist for over 20 years, Deven also has over 10 years of teaching experience. In addition to teaching for the College of Biblical Leadership, Deven is the Director of Worship for Calvary Christian Academy P-12. He has been in Christian education for over 15 years. He earned a B.A. from Seattle Pacific University in Communication and a Masters degree from our own Calvary Chapel University. Deven has also enjoyed touring as a support guitarist for The Kry and Jeremy Camp, and is currently performing with The Surfaris. He feels blessed to be called by the Lord to serve and raise up the next generation of worship leaders. He and his wife Wendy have two beautiful daughters, Jane and Grace.
Cynthia Jo Booth
Instructor
Cynthia has been in Christian education for 25 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Child Development from Point Loma Nazarene University and a Master of Arts in Teaching with a Specialization in Best Practices.
Cynthia is the History Department Head for Horizon Junior/Senior High School in San Diego, California where she teaches Advanced Placement and Honors History. She has taught at every level from preschool through college. Her strengths are in classroom management, curriculum planning and exposition. She is a member and national conference speaker of the National Science Teacher’s Association, as well as a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. In addition, Cynthia has 2 years of experience as a STELLAR teacher for NASA. She has been recognized four times by Who’s Who.
Dr. Vern Czelusniak
Instructor
Dr. Czelusniak has been an instructor for Calvary Chapel University since 2006. He holds a PhD in Computing Education Technology from Nova Southeastern University, a MS in Adult Education/Human Resources Development from Florida International University, and a BA in Human Resources Administration from St. Leo College. He is also a core faculty member in Instructional Design for Online Learning for Capella University. His background in information technology and online learning is extensive. In addition, he has held the position of President for both Florida National College and American Intercontinental University. Dr. Czelusniak is a 20-year retired veteran from the U.S. Coast Guard where he served in Personnel Administration.
Dr. Czelusniak is a staff member of Calvary Chapel Kendall and has been instrumental in establishing the School of Discipleship. He has been serving as the Discipleship Ministry overseer for the past three (3) years. Vern has been serving the Lord in various ministries at Calvary Chapel Kendall since 2002.
Paul Hicok
Instructor
Paul began teaching for CCU in 2008. He also teaches high school History, Apologetics, and Government for Calvary Christian Academy, where he has taught since 2004. He holds a Bachelors degree in Political Science from UC Davis and a Masters degree in Christian Apologetics from Biola University. His deep passion is teaching and defending the truth of Christianity. His love of philosophy and history is what drove him to seek answers to the big questions in life. This eventually inspired him to trust and follow Jesus. Paul enjoys engaging students in conversations about what they believe and why they believe it. He says the most exciting thing about Christian education is that he gets to inspire students to think and come to a greater knowledge and understanding of Jesus Christ. Born and raised in Northern California, Paul now lives with his wife Ann in San Diego.
Linda Huffman
Instructor
Linda joined the faculty of CCU in 2007. She has over 20 years of experience in the field of Christian education at Calvary Chapel Schools in Costa Mesa. Currently, she is the Assistant Principal at Calvary Chapel High School where she works with first and second year teachers, arranges staff development opportunities, and assists with curriculum. In addition, she is working with the Orange County Department of Education and Concordia University in Irvine as a Mentor to 6 teachers in the BTSA program (clear credential program) and is obtaining a WASC Chairman certificate through UC Riverside.
Linda also spent time in the Los Angeles Unified School District in their Children’s Centers Program. She has an AA Degree in Early Childhood Education, a Bachelor’s degree from Long Beach State University, a California teaching credential and a Master’s in education from Hope International University. Linda lives in southern California with her husband and has three grown children.
Dr. Anthony Husemann
Instructor
Dr. Husemann has been in Christian education and research for 30 years. He is a leader in educational technology with experience in both using and delivering educational programs live and online. His experience includes teaching on all levels, curriculum and program development, staff training and certification, school accreditation, and administration. He currently serves as the Principal for Triple C (K-12) in the Cayman Islands.
Dr. Husemann is a National Merit Scholar, MD Senatorial Scholar, Vance Havner Scholar, and Who’s Who Among American Teachers, (2006-08). He is the President and Founder of Classco, Classical Christian Consultants Company, Inc. Classco was founded in 1996 as a consultancy to private and public charter schools, Classco provides assistance to schools in the areas of curriculum design, evaluation and development using the SACS-SIP (School Improvement Process) model.
Dr. Brian Nixon
Instructor
Dr. Brian Nixon is a part of the core faculty for CCU. He also serves as a visiting professor of Ministry and Education for Veritas Evangelical Seminary. He has served as Headmaster for Horizon Prep in Rancho Santa Fe, California, has been the Director of Publishing for Calvary of Albuquerque, as well as Superintendent of Schools and head of publishing for Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa. He is a Pastor for Calvary Costa Mesa as well as a board member for the Calvary Chapel Education Association.
Dr. Nixon graduated Cum Laude from Stanislaus University with his Bachelor of Arts degree. He has also received degrees from Trinity Seminary (M.A), and St. Alcuin’s Episcopal Seminary (D. Phil.). His credential (ACSI) and continuing education work was accomplished at various institutions: Azusa University, Hope University, Chapman University, and Biola University.
Dr. Nixon has published several books in the field of Christian education, including: The Master Teacher, Line Upon Line, Inspired to Teach, and Choosing the Right Bible.
